Here is what's happening in Fourth Grade World Geography
Over the next few weeks we will be discussing the United States. We will be expanding our knowledge of the states, their capitals, and locations through educational centers. Ask your child to share with you their experience in the World Geography classroom.
In class the students have been brainstorming ways that they can practice the states outside of our classroom. Have this conversation with your family and make learning the states and capitals an activity you do together.
Here are some of the ideas they came up with to help with their learning:
- Games with their family
- Online games and apps (check out the for students page)
- Flashcards
- Maps
- Songs such as a rap by educational rapper Mr. Chris available on iTunes and the Fifty Nifty United States (see link below)
- Videos such as the state capitals song by the Animaniacs (see link below)

World Geography homework policy:
Homework will not often be given in World Geography unless it is unfinished class work or research for an upcoming project or assignment. Students will be given clear instructions as to how to complete the homework and have until the next World Geography class to submit assignments (four school days later). Should the homework not be submitted the students must complete it for the next school day or they will need to complete it in the World Geography classroom during recess or after school. Any student who has questions regarding homework or who has misplaced a piece of work should contact me prior to the class that it is due either in person or via email ([email protected]).

Throughout the year we will be discussing what culture is and celebrating the different cultures within our class, school, and community. If your family has any special cultural traditions that you would like to share please let me know!
As we begin to discuss and share our own cultures in class take the time to discuss your family's culture at home. Share with your child things that are unique to your family culture. We will be talking about food, music, art, traditions, celebrations and language.
